USA, Arizona, Coconino, Maricopa County: Grown in cultivation at Desert Botanical Garden, Phoenix, N 33 deg 27' 33'', W 111 deg 56' 35'', 1200 ft., 366 m; accession number 1952-3399-01-1; originally received as a plant collected by Ellwood R. "Jim" Blakely, s. n., from Arizona, Coconino County, Grand Canyon National Park, at the foot of the Grand Canyon.
Pads yellow-green; glochids gold to brown; spines absent; flowers collected in the morning and afternoon, diameter 49-68 mm, length 56-72 mm, outer perianth pink wiht a reddish-green mid-stripe, inner perianth deep pink or magenta or dark pink at bottoom to light pink at tips, additional flowers collected in April 2009; stigma lobe number 5-8, cream; style white; filaments red or rose; fruit are dry, gray, diameter 11-12 mm, length 19 mm; seeds tan.
