Habitat: Large fen with high quality portions on eastern edge. Beautiful large Larix laricina trees shelter very diverse ribbons of fen. Large west portion is dominated by weedy species including Agrostis gigantea. Phalaris arundinacea dominates the fen/woodland interfaces. Bordered on north by creek and on south by woodland upland. Phalaris arundinacea dominated area in western portion of prairie fen; about 25m east of woodland upland; some large snags in area (up to 30m tall) and some Ulmus americana, Acer rubrum, Populus tremuloides trees ring the area; common species in area include Eutrochium maculatum, Agrostis gigantea, Solidago gigantea, Pycnanthemum virginicum, and Carex lasiocarpa. Ground moist and is first time where we have reached water table in this part of fen.
