Habitat: Rare shrub in medium-stature shrubland or shortgrass grassland on stony clay soils on alluvial/colluvial flat and on moderately steep rocky limestone slope. Associates include Acacia neovernicosa, Condalia ericoides, Ephedra spp., Flourensia cernua, Fouquieria splendens, Gutierrezia sp., Hibiscus denudatus, Koeberlinia spinosa, Larrea tridentata, Leucophyllum minus, Parthenium incanum, Prosopis glandulosa, Rhus microphylla, Tiquilia canescens, Viguiera stenoloba, Yucca treculeana.
Reproductive Condition: sterile
